“A lot of other foster parents have the same concerns as you have. What’s most important for our organization is that the child’s most basic needs are met. Things like food, housing, and schooling. Those three are our biggest priority. And you both have done a wonderful job in meeting that criteria.”
SOCIAL WORKER
Quiet is intended to showcase how children in the US foster care and adoption system get neglected emotionally during an incredibly traumatic period in their life. Despite the recent progress in mental health advocacy, the systems meant to protect children ignore the existence of emotional abuse due to the fact that it doesn’t occur as much as other types of tangible abuse. This means that guardians can provide basic needs (food, housing, education) for a child, commit emotional neglect/abuse, and get away with it assuming no other tangible signs of neglect/abuse is present. While this may not occur often, it does occur and these children who don’t fit the “stereotypical” mold of a neglected and abused children deserve a loving family just as much as any other child.
